1. What's the Muhlenkamp Method of investing?

We shop for companies to invest in the way you shop for a house; we check the foundation, check the attic, check the plumbing, we check everything we can think of that can turn a good company into a bad company. And then we insist on paying less than it’s worth because you can turn a good company into a BAD investment if you pay too much for it.

2. What do you mean by the “investment climate”?

The climate is the combination of ALL the geopolitical/social economic conditions that determine which investment opportunities make the most sense at any given time. Day to day market prices are analogous to how much rain we get today, business cycles tell us if we should be planting or harvesting. The climate tells us if we are dealing with an Ice Age or Warming Period. All of them are important and all of them need to be understood.

3. What's the best way to hire Muhlenkamp?

It depends. But it doesn’t depend on how much you have to invest; it depends on whether our approach will help you sleep at night during chaotic times. So call us! We’d love to learn more about you and your family. We will schedule a get-to-know in person or over the phone, whichever you prefer. Whether it’s goal-setting or dream-building we always start by listening first.

4. Why is Muhlenkamp different from other investors or financial advisors?

Once again, it depends. Who are you comparing us to? Do you need us to be different, or do you need us to be good? We are dedicated to doing what’s best for our clients, using common sense and a down to earth approach to help them protect and preserve their money, grow it over time, and sleep well at night in the process. We would like to think that makes us just like EVERY other investor and financial advisor out there, but we are told that is not the case.

5. What are your fees?

Well, it depends (there’s a theme here somewhere). Some clients pay us a percentage fee to manage their accounts, some pay us an hourly consulting fee for planning and advice. Once we know whether or not we are the right people to help you, and once we’ve identified the best way for us to work together, we can tell you EXACTLY what our fees will be, and you will always know what we charge you. There is nothing hidden and no guesswork. Ever.
